FAQs
How much is a Cooking for Causes event ticket?
Ticket prices will vary by event but the idea is for the price to be low enough that it’s not a huge barrier of entry and yet still enough that our collective donations help make an impact.
What if I don’t like to cook?
Our events vary, with the common denominator always being a culinary bent. We host a handful of cookbook club dinners a year (which do require you to prepare a dish) but we also host events where you can show up, have fun and learn something new. (Ex: wine tastings, cooking classes, embroidery lessons, etc.)
What do I do if I can’t come?
There are unfortunately no refunds on tickets. Feel free to find a friend to take your place and/or let the organizer know if you can’t join as events may have a waitlist of interested participants.
How are causes chosen?
Causes are focused around key social issues and needs that feel most critical. Where possible, they are also tied to calender events + observances.
What do I wear to events?
Whatever you like! There is no dress code.
Is my ticket price / donation tax-deductible?
Cooking for Causes is not a 501(c)3 nonprofit so we are unable to issue tax receipts for events.
What do I need to bring with my dish to cookbook club dinner events?
At the event, you should bring your dish ready to serve. Room temperature is fine. There is no access to reheat. Please bring utensils to serve and label your serving pieces with your name. The meal will be served buffet style for all to enjoy. Plates, utensils & supplies will be provided.
How it Works:
Cookbook Club Dinners
Interested in coming to one of our cookbook club dinners? These intimate evenings work like a very organized potluck around one cookbook and/or author. We host a handful of these dinners per year. Here’s how it works…
(1) Buy a ticket to a cookbook dinner event.
The majority of proceeds goes directly to support a selected nonprofit advocating for an important cause. There are no refunds on tickets.
(2) Prior to the event, we will send out a Google Doc where you can sign up for a recipe.
Every event will feature a cookbook sign-up sheet. Each participant should prepare at least one recipe from the chosen cookbook. (Think of it like a potluck but with more organization.) Cookbook clubs are a great way to explore a single book’s many recipes. If you’re truly pressed for time and still want to come, you can sign up to bring a drink to share instead.
(3) Come ready to dine + do good.
Whenever possible, each event will feature a small moment of action in support of the cause (e.g., postcard writing, care packages, etc.)
